Call for Session Proposals
Theme: "Rediscovering Louisiana: Re-engagement and Exploration in Louisiana’s Archives"
Promoting active exploration and renewed interest in archival collections as vital sources
for Louisiana’s diverse history and cultural legacy.
The Louisiana Archives and Manuscripts Association (LAMA), in partnership with The Louisiana Creole Association (La Creole), invites proposals for sessions at our 2026 Annual Meeting & Conference, to be held in person at Xavier University of Louisiana on Friday, October 16, 2026. We seek presentations that inspire renewed engagement with Louisiana’s archival collections, highlight innovative projects, and foster dialogue about the role of archives in preserving and interpreting our state’s rich and diverse heritage.
We welcome proposals from archivists, librarians, historians, educators, students, and community partners. Sessions may be individual or collaborative.
Session Formats

Standard Session: 1 hour (45 minutes presentation + 15 minutes Q&A)

Lightning Talk: 20 minutes (15 minutes presentation + 5 minutes Q&A)
Possible Topics Include

Creative approaches to re-engaging communities with archival collections

Case studies of rediscovery or reinterpretation of Louisiana’s archival materials

Collaborative projects between archives and local organizations

Innovative outreach, education, or programming initiatives

Preserving and promoting underrepresented voices in Louisiana’s history

Challenges and successes in collection development or conservation

Student or early-career perspectives on archival work in Louisiana
How to Submit: Please submit your proposal, including a session title, abstract (250 words max), session format (Standard or Lightning Talk), and presenter(s) information, via email attachment to LouisianaArchivists@gmail.com with subject "2026 LAMA Session Proposal" by June 30th, 2026.
